Tips for Healthcare IT Funding
A major barrier to entry into the world of electronic medical records for most physician practices is funding. Although there is promise of some grant funding opportunities from the federal level in the future, substantial dollars will be difficult at best to secure. When developing a funding strategy, be sure to include sources not only from the federal and state levels but also from foundations, corporations, health plans, pharmaceuticals, private donors, and others. Essentially, focus on those “stakeholders” that have a vested interest in the success of the practice’s entry into an electronic world. And what does it take to secure funding? It takes a well thought out business plan that addresses goals, objectives, vision, mission, a financial model, project structure, and a plan for sustainability. Once prepared, the business plan can become a practice’s platform for securing money to accomplish identified initiatives.
